The Prom You Missed Out On

3rd Annual Capital Queer Prom:

LGBT couples can experience the prom they never had during the 3rd annual Capital Queer Prom on March 7th. What started as an event for over 200 lesbians has expanded to include all members of the LGTB community, in what has become a celebration of all kinds of relationships and the right to dress up and have a good time, regardless of sexuality.

The prom will be centered around a moonlit cruise on Potomac, aboard the Spirit of Mount Vernon cruise ship. The night includes heavy hors d'oeuvres, music, dancing and a silent auction. Proceeds from the prom benefit One in Ten/Reel Affirmations, the nation's LGBT film festival. The event lasts from 7:30 - 10:30 p.m., and boarding begins at 7 p.m.

While 10:30 p.m. may have been closer to your curfew in high school, you can continue to party once the boat docks by heading over to Phase One. The country's first lesbian bar is offering free admission to all prom attendees. Also, if you're looking to end your night in true prom fashion, Beacon Hotel is offering a discount on their hotel rooms for the weekend.

They must really want that prom experience, because prices haven't changed since high school. Tickets are $50 per person and must be purchased prior to the event. They are available from Lambda Rising Bookstore or at http://www.eventboi.com/prom.html.
