This afternoon, the Yes! Organic Market by 14th and V Streets will finally open. The store is part of PN Hoffman’s colossal project, the Flats at Union Row. This newspaper, the New York Times, and I’m sure plenty of others have written about the ongoing difficulties and dramas of the redevelopment of 14th Street between U Street and Columbia Heights. From View 14’s tough start as a condominium building (which eventually was turned into an apartment building after pre-sales tanked) to the slow breakdown of the decrepit Nehemiah Retail Center, this strip has been a relatively useless, lifeless construction zone for at least the last year that I’ve lived in the area.

According to a press release sent out this weekend, the corridor “has seen more than $1 billion worth of new investment during the past several years.” It’s always nice to see when something comes of that.
