Facebook Moving Into Bigger D.C. Office

Facebook's corporate headquarters, unsurprisingly, are in Palo Alto, Calif. It's easier to envision a movie-type montage of  Facebook  executives skipping down to the the beach at lunch time, rather than battling D.C.'s cold in the winter and humidity in the summer.

But The Washington Post broke the story that Facebook's D.C. employees are moving into a beautiful building on F Street NW. They will spread out in 8,500 square feet of office space in Penn Quarter.

Andrew Noyes, of Facebook, said the social networking site will be moving into “a long-term location that will fit our growing business needs.”

Yes, now it is coming into focus. Penn Quarter is cool. The neighborhood is hip. Maybe just trendy enough for Facebook. Employees can score tickets to the Verizon Center during lunch. And hang out in all those “see-and-be-seen” Penn Quarter restaurants.

Six Facebook employees have been quietly laboring away in their current D.C. offices at Dupont Circle, as the company spent between $200,000 and $250,000 lobbying each of the past two years. One or two more employees could join them at their new office.

“We built an office building in a great location and made sure it was of the highest quality,” said Douglas Jemal, of Jemal Development, which constructed the building at 1155 F Street. “Retailers want to re-locate to the Penn Quarter neighborhood; consumers want to shop there; and naturally, companies want to work in an area ... that offers the best amenities.”

Facebook must have agreed. By late April, the team of local Facebook employees will be ensconced in their new space.
