Did you always listen when your mom told you to eat your veggies? Well, good for you, you goody-two-shoes! We thought you might like to know that the D.C. VegFest is this Saturday, Sept. 12.
The fest is being held at GW's University Yard (surrounded by G and H streets, and 20th and 21 streets N.W.), from noon to 6 p.m. Go devote your life -- OK, or at least your afternoon -- to learning about a meatless existence and sampling healthy fare from local restos.
NBC4's Wendy Rieger will be offering opening remarks at noon. Kenneth Williams will share how he became a vegan bodybuilder at 12:15, and veg chef Mimi Clark will offer a cooking demo at 2:15. Oh, by the way ... did we mention Rory Friedman, co-author of natural foods bible/snarkfest "Skinny B*tch" will be speaking at 3:15? Yep.
Food vendors include Sticky Fingers Bakery (if you've never had vegan cupcakes, you don't know what you're missing), Java Green and Amsterdam Falafel Shop. You can check out organic health and beauty products and learn more about earth-friendly causes. Look at you, being such a do-gooder!
By the way, if you're truly devoted to the vegetarian cause, you might not want to look at our article on the Taste of Friendship Heights food festival, happening the same day.
