No More ‘Hollywood for Ugly People'

Hello, gorgeous! Yep, D.C.'s the prettiest

Who's the fairest state of all? Well, it's not even a state! Or a commonwealth! Nope, the Daily Beast has named D.C. home of the country's most attractive people.

Go ahead, lean back in your chair and mentally preen for just a second.

Now if you're wondering how the folks at the Beast pulled this off, well, just be glad there weren't any "real" scientists peeking over their shoulders:

First, we determined who had the most stunners-per-capita..., tallying the hometowns of more than 300 male and female fashion models, plus 125 men mentioned in 10 years' worth of People's "Sexiest Man Alive" issues. Then, we accounted for the results of the Miss America and Miss USA pageants for the past decade.

Finally, in order to measure general attractiveness, we factored in health and fitness data for each state from 2006-2008, ranked by the Trust for America's Health. Each of those three criteria -- models, pageant winners, fitness -- was weighed equally, with any ties broken by which state performed best in the latter category.

Oh, yeah, um... that sounds totally simple. But really, we won't complain, since the Daily Beast thinks we're all hot.

Here's the top 10:

1. District of Columbia
2. Hawaii
3. California
4. Connecticut
5. Florida
6. New York
7. Massachusetts
8. New Jersey
9. Nevada
10. Rhode Island
