WASHINGTON (AP) - The National Park Service is removing Abraham Lincoln's wool overcoat from public display at Ford's Theatre for several months of conservation storage.

The president's coat worn the night he was shot at Ford's Theatre will be replaced with a replica on Thursday, Nov. 12. The original Brooks Brothers coat will return to the display in the theater lobby in February.

The park service and theater officials have agreed to display the coat for six months each year to balance conservation of the bloodstained garment with public access to the artifact. It has been on display since the theater reopened to the public in February following a $25 million renovation.
