Help Fitness Buffs Help Haiti

When tragedy strikes, you need Results. Results, the Gym, that is.

The D.C.-based chain of gyms, along with its new sister fitness facility, STROGA, is sending a team of members and staff to Haiti this summer to help build homes, teach classes for children, and assist families trying to put their lives back together.

Want to help them help Haiti?  The volunteers are raising money for their trip during a brunch on Sunday at STROGA (1808 Adams Mill Road, NW). The brunch/silent auction (items include vacation getaways, artwork, fun gift baskets, and more) starts at 11 a.m.

This isn't the first time owner Doug Jefferies has rallied his troops. In 2005, 21 gym members traveled to Sri Lanka as part of the tsunami relief effort. A few years later, 30 volunteers participated in five trips to Biloxi to help those affected by Hurricane Katrina.

Now, the group is planning three excursions to Haiti, in partnership with the Global Volunteer Network, a private NGO based in New Zealand.

Haiti still needs help. A lot of help. Five months after the 7.0 earthquake shook the nation, Haiti is still struggling to provide basic needs to its residents. Electricity is spotty, rubble is everywhere, and access to clean water is not a given. That's why Jefferies thought it was important to link up with a certified organization to help.
