Ellen, Brian Williams Team Up to Promote First Amendment

Ellen DeGeneres and NBC’s Brian Williams are teaming to educate Americans about the First Amendment.

The 1 for All campaign began today, as the nation prepares to celebrate Independence Day.

Only one in 25 people can name all five freedoms in the First Amendment -- speech, press, religion, assembly and petition -- said Newseum President Ken Paulson, who is coordinating the campaign.

The nation is so polarized, it’s a good time for a reminder that everyone has freedom of speech, Paulson said.

DeGeneres will be the celebrity face of the campaign in July, followed by John Mellencamp in August.

Google is expected to prominently feature the campaign on its website today. Ads will appear in newspapers across the country.

Foundations will provide educational programs for students.
