10/23: The Zombie Apocalypse Threatens!

Plus, a Masquerade Bball and Oktoberfest at Church

HOBBLE FOR YOUR LIFE! Oops, you just got bit by a zombie. Slowly stumble along with like-minded monsters during the third annual Silver Spring Zombie Walk. Meet up at Jackie's Sidebar (8081 Georgia Ave., Silver Spring) for the walk. End with a screening of "Dawn of the Dead" at the AFI Silver Theatre (8633 Colesville Road). Don your bloodiest outfit (which we sincerely hope you don’t already own!). 7:30-9 p.m. gather for zombie walk; free. Movie 9:45 p.m.; $10.

MASQUERADE BALL: Need a... slightly less terrifying Halloween event? Gadsby’s Tavern Museum (134 N. Royal St., Alexandria) hosts a costumed Masquerade Ball, complete with English Country dancing and live music. And "refreshments," obviously. 8-11 p.m.; $45 in advance or $50 at the door.

CHURCHFEST: Don’t forget about October’s other holiday! St. Thomas Apostle Church (2665 Woodley Road N.W.) throws their annual Oktoberfest German Buffet Dinner and Celebration. Go for German drinks (i.e., beer) and cuisine with live music, dancing and door prizes. 6:30-10:30 p.m.; $30.
