Avant-Grande 2008: This visual spoken word gala event is put on by Starbucks baristas. See original artwork and spoken word performances done by aspiring artists who are all Starbucks employees from both D.C. and NY. Attendees can enjoy cocktails and hors d’oeuvres and purchase artwork. The event is $20, all proceeds go to benefit Sol y Soul; a non-profit arts organization. The even takes place at the House of Sweden at 2900 K St. NW. It starts at 7 p.m. Go to http://www.starbucksavant-grande.com for more information.

William Ayers: Professor of Education at the University of Illinois at Chicago and author William Ayers will make an appearance at All Souls Church to discuss his two books: City Kids, City Schools: More Reports from the Front Row - and it's companion- City Kids, City Teachers: Reports from the Front Row. In these books Ayers looks into why improving urban education is such a necessity. It's a must see for all education advocates, teachers and parents.

PLEASE NOTE: Due to the large number of people and media who want to attend the event with William Ayers, we have moved it to a venue that can accommodate a larger audience. It will be held at: All Souls Church, 1500 Harvard Street NW, Washington, DC 20009.
