The largest green living event in the nation is coming to Washington, D.C.

The Green Festival is a two-day festival and a joint project of Global Exchange and Co-op America, two non-profit organizations that aim for environmental and social justice.

D.C. is the first city to host the festival on Nov. 8 through Nov. 9. After D.C., the festival will head to San Francisco, Seattle, Denver and then end in Chicago in mid-May 2009.

The event features over 125 speakers, 350 green-friendly businesses, how-to-workshops, yoga sessions, cooking demonstrations, and live music. The festival intends to show what is working in the Washington community and worldwide in terms of people, businesses, and the environment and to provide more options to make the community green and sustainable.

Featured speakers include Barbara Ehrenreich, author of “Nickle and Dimed,” and William McDonough, an architect known for his sustainability efforts. Other things to look out for are a green film festival, a reggae concert Saturday morning and a closing celebration on Saturday evening.

All events take place at the Washington D.C. Convention Center at 801 Mt. Vernon Place NW. Saturday events are 10 a.m. to 7 p.m; Sunday the festival starts at 11 a.m. and ends at 6 p.m.

Tickets are $15, but $10 reduced tickets are available for college students, bike riders, public transit users and other qualified attendees. For more information or to purchase tickets ahead of time go to greenfestivals.org.
